It is a one-on-one session, where we, together, determine your Prakriti (body constitution) and your current Vikriti (imbalance). We provide practical support using yoga, meditation, pranayama, lifestyle focus, Ayurvedic Home Remedies, and other wellness principles and Ayurvedic practices to work in conjunction with your body's constitution and help bring your body into balance, complementing your Western or Allopathic Medical Care.
Ayurveda wants to keep healthy people healthy and to bring those suffering from illness back into balance so they can BE healthy. Ayurveda examines so much more than just your current health issue. This science and its practitioners dive deep to discover the very heart of the problem. Where did this health issue stem from? In Ayurveda, we don’t just treat symptoms; we look to get to the heart of the matter. This is why, when we sit down for a consultation, we discuss not only your diet but also your lifestyle, work-life-home balance, sleep habits, spiritual practice, and more. There are many questions and areas we cover. This allows us to discover the BEST plan for you. Completely individualized FOR you. There are specific general guidelines Ayurveda follows. It is recommended that you eat your largest meal of the day during Pitta time, from 10 am to 2 pm, is an example. And there are things that need to be taken into account based on the seasons, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, so as to minimize the aggravating effect of the doshas of the season on the doshas in your body. However, your lifestyle and work commitments may not make this possible, and we will work to find a solution that works around it. These recommendations are not the blanket protocols we have become accustomed to in Allopathic or Western medicine with its one-size-fits-all methods. And Ayurveda recognizes that in some areas, Allopathic or Western medicine is superior, which is why it works in conjunction with it. This is especially true of acute situations or certain illnesses that require specific medications and treatments for a person to survive.
Ayurveda is not a one-size-fits-all approach, nor is it a science or medicine where the patient or client does not take an active role in determining a plan to achieve balance. There is no magic pill here; it's normally a combination of things working together to bring balance. This can include a dinacharya (daily routine), a ritucharya (seasonal routine), and pacifying diet recommendations, as well as a style of yoga or meditation, and more. It is also something that we must work on every single day to achieve the desired results.
I equate being an Ayurvedic Practitioner to the old family doctor. Mine, as a child, would prescribe an antibiotic, say for strep throat, but then write a bunch of other things on another prescription pad, like gargling with salt water, drinking honey and lemon in hot water, and so on. The antibiotic prescription is the Allopathic or Western Medicine you get from your Medical Care Provider; the rest you get from someone like me.
My Ayurvedic Consultations also include an evaluation of your subtle body anatomy, or chakra (the energy or pranic system). This topic is something I am especially well-versed in and can see the need to include. As an Ayurvedic Practitioner, my concern is with promoting, maintaining, and restoring health, helping to maintain a healthy lifestyle, eliminating impurities from the body, reducing stress, and combating various health problems. Energetic bodywork is part of this process.
